That's a Wrap!! ~ Fall 2020 One Room Challenge "Guest Room Retreat"

The leaves are just about off the trees and my mums are getting closer to wilted. Next week all of the pumpkins will be scattered out back for the animals and our patio will be packed away. The plants are all inside now & the kids have been drafting up their holiday wish lists...the only thing left of Fall is to pull the plug on our 2020 Fall One Room Challenge! If you missed any of the AMAZING reveals you can check them out right here: Better Homes & Gardens Fall 2020 One Room Challenge

I am so excited to share this room with you! I honestly put my heart and soul into fixing this space up for our company...and although we don't anticipate too many guests in the weeks ahead, we are more than ready when the time is right!

If you remember correctly...this is where we started:

We had very worn out carpeting and dated curtains and wallpaper. I will never forget walking into this space (such a fun little 5th bedroom discovery all to itself on the other side of the laundry room). From the moment I saw it, I instantly envisioned the butterfly diptych I have always wanted and knew it would make the perfect guest room. It is far enough away from the other bedrooms to offer privacy and also very near the side entrance.

Creating the butterfly for above the bed is actually pretty simple. Once I designed my graphic and matched all of the colors (thank yo to Sherwin Williams for providing me the color codes to match my paint colors!). I printed up two 18 x 24 prints and added them to two frames (buy one get one free - SCORE!! from Michael's).

I originally found these lamps from Marketplace and discovered the perfect shades on clearance at the 'At Home Store'. I also added gold finials to the top & freshened up the gold bases to give them some new life. The mirrors are from Target (you can find them HERE) and were almost identical to some much pricier versions I found and fell in love with.

I am a huge fan of the Cavallini Papers & Co Decorative Wrap papers (this vintage butterfly print) that I first found at Paper Source decades ago. I remember walking in for the first time to a store in West Hollywood and my jaw dropped. I have since been framing them in all of my homes through the years and have about 5 more I plan on adding to the walls of our house. You can definitely design an entire room around one of these beauties.

The wall hooks are a DIY of mine that was so simple and came out so beautiful. I bought the board from Home Depot and stained it - then added three decorative hooks from Ebay.

These curtains are by Opalhouse from Target (HERE)...those tassles just set off the room and became the pop of chartreuse I didn't know I needed.

And speaking of Chartreuse....well....I just knew I wanted to add some whimsy in this room. The color is City Chartreuse by Valspar and it was the only true mid-century green I considered. I wanted the effect of wallpaper without the hassle of hanging it from the ceiling (but just know that will definitely be happening in a future ORC room....just as soon as I get over my PTSD from removing my SEVEN rooms and counting of wallpaper). We added this light fixture from Decor Therapy. I just love the mid century feel of it combined with the oh-so-amazing flying cranes (they are gold vinyl wall decals!) from Lilinmomo on Etsy.

We added trim around the ceiling (stained Gunstock by Minwax to match the rest of the woodwork). These were originally textured ceilings that we smoothed out and sealed with my new favorite sidekick, Zinsser BIN.

I wanted to add some wooden beads in the room (to keep the circles going in the beaded mirrors and the lamps) but I didn't want to commit to them with a light fixture. Instead, we whipped up a planter using decorative Christmas garland and staining the beads to match the wood (and painting a few gold). I just love how this came out and added a fun twist to our hanging plant!

Finally, we put together a fun little cart of amenities and a WIFI printable (you can find that in my shop!) to make out of town guests get right to business.

Now that it is too cold to use the back patio, you can find me and my girls in here reading (me) or playing Roblox with the cousins on their ipads (them). We seriously cannot wait to host our friends and family from out of town and show them around the great state of Ohio.

But when they get here, they will have to have a quick chat about boundaries with her....because she is 100% certain that this room was made for her and her alone....

Well my friends, I think that about does it with the details. I really had the best time bringing this room to life - I think you can have so much fun in a guest room (and kids' rooms!) and we are very excited to make some vacation memories with our nearest and dearest!

I hope everyone has a lovely & safe holiday season. If you know me, you know I will be huddling up by our fire and plotting the Spring and our our next Better Homes & Gardens One Room Challenge. I will leave you with a little video from our first day in our home so that you can really see the transformation....
